Travis Schlenk has verbally agreed to become the new general manager of the Atlanta Hawks, sources told ESPN's Marc Stein on Wednesday.
A deal is expected to be announced Thursday.
Schlenk currently is in his fifth season as assistant GM of the Golden State Warriors. Prior to that, he was the team's director of player personnel.
The Atlanta vacancy comes after coach Mike Budenholzer was stripped of his dual role as president of basketball operations and Wes Wilcox, the former GM, was assigned to a special adviser to ownership earlier this month. |

Masai Ujiri has built a deep and highly-respected front office with the Raptors, and it was inevitable that a new, bigger challenge would ultimately present itself to some member of his braintrust. That day has arrived.
Jeff Weltman, a highly-regarded long-time NBA front-office executive brought to Toronto by Ujiri not long after taking over the helm of the franchise, is leaving to become the president of basketball operations with the Orlando Magic.
The timing of the move is not ideal for a Raptors franchise facing a handful of key off-season decisions, but will give Weltman the time necessary to continue a building process with the Magic — who fired GM Rob Hennigan last month. Widespread speculation that the Magic were prepared to wait for the Cleveland Cavaliers to finish their season before hiring their GM, David Griffin, was proved wrong.
An NBA front-office lifer, Weltman was promoted to GM last September after serving as executive vice-president of basketball operations.
Before joining Ujiri’s front office in 2013, Weltman had spent five seasons as the assistant GM of the Milwaukee Bucks and also worked in the front office of the Detroit Pistons, Los Angeles Clippers and Denver Nuggets, where he first worked for Ujiri.
While the loss will be significant, Ujiri has built a solid front office that can withstand one member getting a promotion.
Assistant GM Bobby Webster, director of player personnel and Raptors905 GM Dan Tolzman, and director of basketball operations Teresa Resch will give Ujiri counsel as the draft and summer free agency approach.
It is a significant time in Toronto franchise history. Four players — Kyle Lowry, Serge Ibaka, P.J. Tucker and Patrick Patterson — will be unrestricted free agents in July, and decisions on their future will map out the Raptors’ future for the next half-decade. |

2017 free agent class is 100 times better than 2016 class and most of the dumb teams blew up all their cap space last year.
One of the best free agent point guard classes ever combined with one of best point guard classes ever. Every team that needs a startig PG should be able to get one.

Who should be the Spurs' starting PG next season?
Haberstroh:? Patty Mills. The Spurs can re-sign him using Bird rights, which seems like the sensible move while Tony Parker rehabs from his quad injury. My feeling is that Kawhi Leonard's handle and playmaking are getting so good that the Spurs won't need Mills to dominate the rock anyway. Dejounte Murray has shown promise, but it's probably too early to hand over the keys to the 20-year-old.
Wright:?When Tony Parker got hurt against the Rockets, the first thing that came to mind was he'd probably never be San Antonio's starting point guard again. But I'd like to see how Parker recovers from this injury before making a call here, because just before he went down, the veteran was starting to catch a groove. Gregg Popovich said Parker had finally rounded into shape after so many injuries throughout the season had him in and out of the lineup.
If Parker isn't sufficiently recovered by the start of the season, or if he's not playing at the same level, it's time to move toward the future with Dejounte Murray, who has all the tools to develop into one of the steals of his draft class. Murray has played more minutes due to Parker's injury, and he has gained plenty of confidence along the way, which bodes well for his future.
Murray really needs to work this offseason to improve his shooting, but given the acumen of shot doctor Chip Engelland, there should be some optimism on that front. In a perfect world, Hill would return for a reunion with Popovich. But it doesn't appear San Antonio will have the cap space to make that happen.
Elhassan:?Absent an absolute home run free-agency heist of? Chris Paul or Kyle Lowry, Dejounte Murray should be handed the reins. He gives the Spurs much-needed length and athleticism, and the sooner he gets minutes the quicker he can develop to closer to what his ceiling will be.
Pelton:?No matter the risk giving him a four-year contract, I don't think you'd pass on Chris Paul if he were interested. Kyle Lowry probably isn't quite enough of a sure thing in the short term to say the same. Of the other free agents, I think Jrue Holiday is the best fit with Kawhi Leonard's timetable. If I couldn't sign one of them, I'd probably look to sign a point guard (possibly Mills) to a one-year deal to maintain 2018 flexibility and give Dejounte Murray room to grow.
Engelmann:?If Patty Mills can be signed to a reasonable price, something close to $20 million per season, it should probably be him. Tony Parker hasn't been very good for a while now, and the quad injury won't make things better. If Mills signs somewhere else, Utah free agent George Hill, whom the Spurs once traded for Kawhi Leonard, would be a tremendous fit. |

All of them face the problem of having to over pay aging or subpar players and are already in luxury tax territory.
Hawks ki by far best player Milsap free agent who is due for a 205 Million contract and they dont want to pay him that much.
Raptors ki same problem with Lowry and Ibaka, Tucker etc free agents
Wizards ki Otto Potter and Bogdananiv free agents. They will have to pay luxury tax to retain both and they never paid luxury tax in their history. |

Iggy Knee will determine NBA finals outcome, he is the only one who can make Lebron work on Warriors, if he is not 100% it will be cavs winning another championship.
This is most important finals for KD, if he can't break through now it will be tough in West to get to finals every year.

Wizrds need to have depth in their team. They have good starters. I always felt wizards would have competed better against cavs than celtics, though celtics are streaky. In the finals, nobody can stop warriors. Last year Curry wasn't fit 100% and also they have Durant now.
Crucial thing for Warriors is Klay thompson getting 4 assits or more. THis guy has tendency to shoot as soon he catch the ball. |
