On a serious note, if Celtics add 2 top-20 players, I think they will be at least on par with Cavs. Getting one of Hayward or Griffin in free agency will be key...then they can trade for another star. |

3 of them avvadhu and also not worth it...Celtics best bet is 2 of them plus all their core players.
They can sign one of Hayward or Griffin outright and trade for one more.
Celtics lo every player is on a value contract....Issaiah Thomas, Avery Bradley, Jae Crawder each of them only make 6-7 M next year...so they can easily flip any of them for first round picks...Jae Crawder contract is for 3 more years...ippudu whole NBA lo most valuable contract adhe...if they get Butler or Griffin, they will trade him for 2 first round picks.
Rest of the core players are on rookie deals...Marcus Smart, Jaylen Brown and Fultz next.

Not only is there no guarantee he’s coming back, I’m not sure there’s an expectation he’s re-signing there. I think they feel, I think within Cleveland and around the league, they feel that he’s very much in play to leave again and likely head out West to one of the two L.A. teams. The Lakers could very well be a target.
The possibility of Miami again, based on how they, what that team looks like and where they are. Would Dwyane Wade go back there?
But I think the focus, a lot of LeBron’s – his business interests, his Hollywood aspirations, his media ventures are base out there.
And I wrote this last year and said it and believed it: The minute he won that championship in Cleveland he was liberated to leave again. Now, if he had not won a title in Cleveland and then left again, I think there would be tremendous backlash again. But the fact that he came back and did what he set out to do, which was to bring a title to Cleveland.
I’m not sure what’s less likely – LeBron or Wade returning to the Heat. It seems those breakups exposed and created too much bad blood. Then again, the same could have been said about LeBron with the Cavaliers.
As for the Lakers or Clippers, as I laid out before, there are several reasons LeBron keeps getting tied to those teams:
1. LeBron has hinted at having eyes for another team. He said he’d take a pay cut to play with Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade and Chris Paul. If it weren’t already difficult to see that happening in Cleveland, Anthony said they’d want to go “someplace warm.” Los Angeles certainly qualifies.
2. LeBron seemingly enjoys the Los Angeles lifestyle. He owns a house there, as does his agent. LeBron has organized offseason workouts there for the Cavs.
3. LeBron wants to keep the Cavaliers on their toes. His return came with terms – a financial commitment from Cavs owner Dan Gilbert. Don’t spend enough, and LeBron could leave. Whether he actually would follow through, LeBron stands to make his Cleveland experience better by having the threat known.
4. It’s fun. LeBron is the best player in the league, and the Lakers the NBA’s most popular team. The Clippers have newfound relevance and play in a large market. It’s just plain fun to speculate on the possibility and the upheaval it’d cause. |

Schlenk recently said one of his top priorities is bringing back Millsap, but he admitted that he might get "better offers than we can make him." Millsap is entering his age-33 season, so it's understandable why the Hawks may not want to sign him to a max deal that could be as much as $205 million over five years. Opposing teams can offer Millsap four-year deals worth up to $152 million, so it will be interesting to see what the market looks like for the All-Star PF. |

Another disaster created because coach was also president of basketball operations. They are letting go by far their two best players (Horford and Milsap) in free agency and get nothing in return. Travis Schlenk was very good as Warriors Assistant GM...looks like Hawks will be the first tanking team for next year.

There is now “a strong chance that West’s son, Ryan West, who is the Lakers’ director of player personnel, will join the Clippers in some capacity,” according to Broderick Turner of the Los Angeles Times.
Ryan West has had his hand in the Lakers’ draft successes over the last several years, perhaps most notably with his influence in the team selecting Jordan Clarkson with No. 46 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft.
The Sacramento Kings attempted to hire Ryan West away in 2015, but were rebuffed when the Lakers promoted him to his current title of director of player personnel. |

Consultancy is perfect for him. West is not the sort of executive to be around the team constantly, though his voice is always heard when it matters. He brings clout, experience, and most of all: intelligent dissent. West is not the sort to ever be shut out or quieted. Bluntness comes standard, and to some West is taken as adversarial. Former Warriors coach Mark Jackson was so put off by West’s demeanor that he requested that West not attend practices or team functions. Yet in the collaborative environment fostered by Kerr and Warriors general manager Bob Myers, West brought a valuable, counterbalancing skepticism. The Warriors might never have become the Warriors if not for West advocating, with full fire, for every move he felt was right.
You’re unlikely to find any greater booster of Klay Thompson, whom West famously advocated keeping against the prospect of trading Thompson in a package for Kevin Love. Thompson would go on to play a crucial role in three straight Finals runs—including punching the Warriors’ ticket in 2016 with an all-time playoff performance. Beyond that, Thompson has turned into the exact sort of cross-matching guard Golden State needed alongside Stephen Curry, a perfect mechanism for Kerr’s motion-heavy offense, and just the sort of person who can make good on a fluctuating role behind two former MVPs.
Part of the reason West was so confident in Thompson is that he isn’t sentimental about the game he used to play. It is typical of today’s NBA legends to revere the league of their time at the expense of the modern game. Post play is eulogized as if more advanced defensive schemes didn’t wound it. Volume three-point shooting is frowned upon as if expansion in that area hadn’t resulted in some of the greatest offenses in league history. NBA basketball looks radically different than it did even five years ago—much less 50 years ago, when West was in his prime.
Still, West speaks to how much the sport has changed in a way that conveys complexity and evolution. “It’s not only different but a more difficult game,” West said of modern basketball on the whole, per the Register-Herald. What could be a signature voice in the crotchety ex-players division of the NBA discourse was instead a collaborator in building a championship team fully symbolic of its era. Acceptance of the league around him is just a part of West’s job. He is not a visionary so much as a realist.
The Clippers could use that. West is a prestige hiring for a franchise without much of it—both around the league and within the region. His name means something. His input means even more, particularly for a franchise that could use a little dissent in its ranks. |

The 2017 NBA Finals revealed a major dichotomy between the Warriors and Cavaliers. Golden State’s roster has three players younger than 22 (only the Nuggets, Suns, and Timberwolves have more), and its homegrown talent could grow into contributing roles to supplant its veterans on the decline. Even rookie guard Patrick McCaw played important Finals minutes, making a couple of key baskets late in the third quarter of the team’s series-clinching 129–120 Game 5 win. Conversely, the Cavaliers’ role-player rotation is made up largely of aging cast-offs and misfits, like Deron Williams and J.R. Smith. Factor in Kevin Love, and Cleveland’s veteran defense in these Finals was passable at best; at worst, it was plagued by missed rotations and poor communication. It made clear that while the Warriors are ascending, the Cavaliers are idling.
Cleveland’s all-in approach helped get it a title last year, but it exacerbated the team’s roster-construction issues, which will only be more pressing entering the 2017–18 season. The Cavs have $125.6 million guaranteed tied up in only eight players. The Warriors, meanwhile, have a Big Four who are all in their late 20s, as well as a perfect blend of youth and experience. |

Lebron on what he thinks of where he is, with the Warriors having won two titles the past three seasons. Forget his comments on superteams. This is the most important answer he gave Monday night (emphasis mine):
"Well, it's a two-sided question because for me personally -- I don't know. I need to sit down and figure this thing out. And so I don't know as far as me personally right now.
But as far as that team, they're going to be here for a while. They're going to be around for a while. Pretty much all their guys are in their 20s. Pretty much all their big-name guys are in their 20s, and they don't show any signs of slowing down.

Iggy aged quite a bit...yesterday was the first time he played 30+ minutes in a loong time. They preserved him through the regular season for games like this.
My guess...anything under 15 Million...they will bring back Iggy...if a crazy team offers Iggy 20+ Million...they would think about letting him go...but the way he has bonded with the team...he might not even talk to other teams and Warriors might take care of him post retirement. |

Klay is under a very good contract for 2 more years..Dramond Green for 3 more years....lot of things can change in 2-3 years....team and player priorities, injuries, aging, replacements emerging etc. First order of business will be dealing with Iggy and Livingston.
If McCaw becomes a starting caliber player on a championship team...I think Warriors will think about trading Klay next summer...he may be fine with that with 3 rings to become the face of a new franchise. Klay will get them a top-5 pick...thats one way to keep the title window open for a long time like Spurs...but lot of things change over time. |

Last 2 years first round picks are on the team and last year they purchased a 2nd round pick (Patrick Mccaw)...who is contributing surprisingly well for a 1st year player. They have all their first round picks intact except this year.

Zach Lowe's master piece on what next for other teams...moral of the story...most teams should and will wait out this dynasty...few of them need to keep trying.
In the end, they are exactly the team the league expected and feared: the best offensive team ever, and the league's stingiest defense over the regular season and postseason combined.
"I don't feel like I sacrificed at all," Klay Thompson told ESPN.com last week. "I'd rather be a part of something that could leave a legacy. There is more to basketball than getting yours, or being the guy. I hope I do this for a long time for the Warriors."
The NBA has had super-teams before, but none quite like this. The Warriors boast four All-NBA-level players age 29 or younger. Three of them rank among the 10 greatest shooters ever; they are all lethal away from the ball. The fourth, Green, is more initiator than finisher, and ranks as a generational defensive player.
Rivals a tier below Golden State and Cleveland are contemplating whether chasing the Warriors is even worth it while all four stars are in their primes. Why exchange draft picks and young players for present-day talent if an upgrade still leaves you way short?
"You know where your competition is," said Danny Ainge, the GM of the Boton Celtics, who chose to stand pat at the trade deadline when the Chicago Bulls demanded a king's ransom for Jimmy Butler. "The formula to become an elite team hasn't changed. What you're asking is if Golden State has changed things so that you have no chance."
Most teams don't have the luxury of even asking this question. Franchises in Charlotte and Memphis just have to be as good as they can be every season. The Celtics are different. They are straddling two paths as a 53-win team with a heap of extra draft picks, including the No. 1 pick this month and the Brooklyn Nets' unprotected pick next season.
The Toronto Raptors were in a similar situation when they flipped Terrence Ross and three draft picks -- including one first-rounder -- for Serge Ibaka and PJ Tucker. They went close to all-in, though without surrendering any asset nearly as valuable as those Brooklyn picks. Cleveland humiliated them in four games.
Most team executives around the league agree there might be some small overall chilling effect on win-now transactions in the wake of Golden State's run. Middling teams without a star could attempt a multi-year process-style bottoming out, though none appear primed to do so. "As a response to the Golden State mega-team, I hear the NBA is considering giving out banners to teams who don't get swept," chuckled Daryl Morey, Houston's GM.
Morey is joking. He has a top-five player in James Harden -- "top-three, we think, for sure," Morey said -- and will not sacrifice a season of Harden's prime in trembling awe of these Warriors. Nor will the Spurs trifle with Kawhi Leonard's best years. They will not trade those players to bottom out, either. The whole point of tanking is to get a chance at players who might be as good as Harden and Leonard. |

The Warriors, fresh off a win over the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Finals, are listed as minus-200, odds-on favorites to win next year's NBA championship, a historic price on a preseason favorite.
"They're going to be the highest favorite we've ever had going into a season, any team in any sport," Jeff Sherman, NBA oddsmaker at the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook, told ESPN.

When asked about the comments on Friday, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr had a great response, taking a shot back at the legions of players who think they were the best.
"They're all right," Kerr said. "They would all kill us. The game gets worse as time goes on. Players are less talented than they used to be. The guys in the '50s would've destroyed everybody. It's weird how human evolution goes reverse in sports. Players get weaker, smaller, less skilled. I don't know. I can't explain it."

"I don't really think they should do anything," a Western Conference exec said.
Then there is the other viewpoint out there that sees the Cavs as lagging so far behind the Warriors that anything less than a dramatic makeover this offseason would already be conceding the championship next year.
The thing is, the dramatic route almost seems like such a pipe dream that some can't even take it seriously. "Hire Tonya Harding's ex-husband," one West exec joked.
"Sign Kevin Durant," said a prominent agent, poking fun at the root of the problem in the first place. Another agent simply replied with a set of praying emoji hands when asked about the Cavs' plight.
While it's easy to see why the Cavs' pursuit of the Warriors triggers this sort of gallows humor -- they are chasing a 73-win team that added Kevin freaking Durant after all -- they do have some assets to play with.
"I would start with seeing what options there are for [Kevin] Love," an Eastern Conference coach said.
What would be the ideal option?
"I'd be targeting Paul George," said a 10-plus year NBA vet. "I don't know the match but I'd give up anything but LBJ and Kyrie to get him. Melo [Carmelo Anthony] and D-Wade [Dwyane Wade] do not solve the problems that they have with GSW." And who wouldn't want the 27-year-old George, who came back from a horrific leg injury to average 23.7 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists last season for the Indiana Pacers?
The problem with Plan A is George isn't currently available, sources tell ESPN.
Patience will be in high demand this offseason. But how do you be patient as the runner-up without feeling complacent? One West exec wondered, "How do you blow up a team that's been to three straight Finals? I think they ride it out, make some tweaks." Of course, the counter is, how can tweaks catch them up to a team that's being compared to one of the best of all time?
Another agent summed it up thusly: "They can't get better. Just hope Iggy [Andre Iguodala] and some other Warriors move on." And this plan sounds sort of like the student who doesn't cram for the exam because he's banking on a school cancellation. |

Juggernaut is LeBron James' word, dropped before the NBA Finals "Threematch" with the Warriors even began and then again Wednesday night after Golden State went up 3-0 on the Cavs with a soul-crushing 11-0 spurt in the final 3 minutes, 8 seconds that all but ended Cleveland's repeat bid.
Sure, last season the Cavs became the first team in league history to come back from a 3-1 Finals deficit against this same Warriors franchise. But it wasn't this same Warriors team. This Warriors team has won 30 of its past 31 games. This Warriors team has Kevin Durant averaging 34 points on 56.1 percent shooting in the Finals; that Warriors team had Harrison Barnes averaging 9.3 points on 35.2 percent shooting playing the same position. This Warriors team has Stephen Curry on two healthy legs. This Warriors team has Draymond Green controlling his habit of striking the opponent in the groin. This Warriors team is hell-bent on revenge.
So again, barring the most incredible feat in basketball history occurring -- starting with Game 4 on Friday -- the pressing question becomes: Where do the Cavs go from here?
ESPN.com polled more than 30 executives, coaches, scouts, agents and players from around the NBA to find options to answer that query.
At perhaps any other time since the league's inception, being a team coming off three straight Finals appearances with a lineup featuring three All-Stars in their primes would be a great spot to be in. A perfect spot, even. If it ain't broke, why fix it?

Also i think Warriors will keep Klay for 1 more year ...unless they get a crazy offer from a team like Celtics. They have Klay on the old max contract for 2 more years..which is super cheap now. Due to little known NBA bylaws that say that any free agent must be connected to the Lakers at some point, we now have to talk about the possibility that James could consider the Lakers.
Okay, so there is no actual bylaws that mandate that (as far as we know), but giving us our excuse to discuss LeBron to the Lakers is the latest report from Kevin O’Connor of the Ringer, who wrote that he’s spoken to “multiple league sources” who “think the Lakers or Clippers are viable destinations for King James” in 2018 when he becomes a free agent.
The Clippers seemingly make sense because of James’ residence in Los Angeles and his friendship with Chris Paul, but why the Lakers? O’Connor explains:
The Lakers are in shambles now. They’re a bad team, period. They’ve won less than 28 percent of their games (91 out of 328) over the past four seasons. On the surface, they make little sense as a home for LeBron. But LeBron is one of the most cerebral athletes in history, on and off the court. If LeBron takes a longview, it’d be easy to see the Lakers’ existing potential. Once you factor in another year of development for their young core, add their draft pick this summer, toss in signing Paul George next summer, then add LeBron, suddenly it’s a roster with a blend of impact players on cheap contracts and veterans ready to win now. A mix of vets and youth is how to build sustainable winners in the NBA.
O’Connor adds more context in his full piece, but it’s also important to note he isn’t the first to report on this possibility. The always-connected former Lakers insider and current Cavaliers scoop-master Dave McMenamin of ESPN reported almost exactly one year ago that he thought James could be heading to Los Angeles:
“I don't think it'll be this summer, but... LeBron says he wants to play with Chris Paul and Dwyane Wade. I don't think that's going to happen in Cleveland. I would say that would happen on one of those two teams in Los Angeles... But I think it will not be happening anytime soon.”
If LeBron teaming up with either his banana boat crew or Paul George in Los Angeles were a real option, it’s easy to see why L.A. could potentially be a place he’d want to play.
The downsides are easy to see as well, however, including the Golden State Warriors juggernaut he’s met in the last three NBA Finals suddenly sharing a division with him and a more difficult path towards his ninth straight Finals (let’s just assume the Cavaliers go next year because the Eastern Conference is terrible).
Are the positives of sunshine, Hollywood, potentially playing alongside Paul George and a young core who could begin to carry him as he ages enough to entice LeBron to leave Cleveland a second time? It seems like a long shot, but it’s certainly an intriguing possibility. |

It will be interesting off season for Cavs...they need to stop relying on washed out players and take chances on young un-drafted or drafted but cut players. Spurs are the best at this...Warriors seem to be following this model to some extent.
But, Warriors bench will be tested next year with Livingston, Clark, Pachulia,, McGee, McDoo becoming free agents. They can retain them but every dollar paid will like $4 for luxury tax.
Cavs may try to do a trade of Kevin Love+2021 pick for PG3 and some other things like this. Another possibility is Melo and Wade taking a mid-season buy outs and joining Cavs. Noboy will take JR's contract, Cavs may be able to move Shumpert & 2021 first round pick. |

The final tally: an astounding 1,044 three-shot fouls league-wide during the regular season, obliterating the previous record of 694 in 2015-16. The wave of three-shot fouls have has been so unprecedented that there were actually more three-shot fouls this season than in 2012-13 and 2013-14 combined.
To put that in perspective, in Dragic's two prior seasons, he had tallied only two three-shot fouls in 150 games, nothing more than happy accidents. In the last 10 days of January this season, Dragic picked up four of them. In February, seven more. In March, a whopping 17 three-shot fouls. By the end of the season, he'd finished with 33, third-most behind Harden (122) and Williams (49).
Why did Dragic all of sudden discover the cheat code in mid-January? Dragic won't say. But then you check the calendar. On Jan. 17, Dragic played Harden's Rockets. Four days later, Dragic's three-foul shot party began. With a suddenly explosive offense, the Heat finished 28-11, the best record in the East over that time. |

The stakes are enormous. Golden State just wrapped the greatest three-year regular-season run in league history. Coming away with one title would be an undeniable disappointment. In the age of analytics, we judge teams based on large sample sizes. That is one reason Warriors owner Joe Lacob claimed recently that the Warriors were "the better team" last season.
Zoom out, and he's right. But we all agreed long ago to determine champions on the court, in short series. You don't raise banners for season-long point differential. You have to win, four times in seven tries, sometimes amid adversity. There is being the best team, and there is being the best team head-to-head when it matters most. Do both, twice in three 67-plus-win seasons, and you join the all-time pantheon.
Durant is already there, though a title would boost him to a new level. LeBron is probably the second-greatest player ever. He has a chance to finish his career as the all-time leading scorer, and one of the half-dozen greatest passers in history. In the end, maybe he won't even need a win in this series to state his case as the best to ever do this. Maybe a strong showing in defeat would be enough.
That would drop LeBron to 3-5 in the Finals. That is three fewer titles than Michael Jordan, with five more losses on the biggest stage. But at some point, the gap in appearances -- eight and counting for LeBron, six for Jordan -- starts to matter, too.
But if Cleveland wins? Against this team? The discussion gets real, right now. |

Naa reasoning...last year game 5 lo Dramond Green suspend avvakapothe series over and the they swapped Harrison Barners with KD.
Last year Warriors played a 7 game series against OKC before the finals and fought very hard to win 73 games. Ippudu they took easy on regular season and play-offs lo every round 4 game series.
Love and Kyrie are playing better, but i think it will not matter. |

Even so, the terms of engagement feel set. That's what makes this series so exciting: These teams know each other. They understand what is coming, and how to respond, and the responses to the responses. Now it's about execution, and mettle, and a little bit of luck.
The central question is whether Cleveland's ho-hum defense can get enough stops, because the Cavs are going to score. They will run selectively, just as they did in nearly doubling up Golden State in fast-break points last time around.
And when they don't, they are going to pull Curry into uncomfortable situations that require extra help away from Cleveland's long-range snipers.
Golden State will target Love the way Cleveland targets Curry: find his guy, and have him screen for Curry and Durant.

Nice summary of last year:
Cleveland spent the first two games of last year's Finals messing up a switch-heavy scheme with which they were unfamiliar, and overthinking different ways to attack Golden State's impenetrable defense. Some with the Warriors privately remarked those two blowouts felt like regular-season games.
By Game 3, the Cavs had the switching thing down well enough to win, and settled on a single, ruthless strategy they could use in every half-court possession: find Curry's man, and have him screen for LeBron. It wore Curry down, mentally and physically. He picked up cheap fouls, and even minor foul trouble to Curry and Green -- one of the league's handsiest defenders -- could flip a game.
Some wild stuff happened, of course. Green's suspension, earned after weeks of groin kicks and one foolish body slam, provides an unanswerable what-if. Love's concussion in Game 2 forced LeBron to guard Green, and made it easier for Cleveland to switch every Curry-Green pick-and-roll. Curry wasn't 100 percent.
