Your view of the OKC-ATL-PHI probably matches your view of Schroder. If you view him the way ATL appears to, getting off his $46.5M and getting a semi-real 1st is huge. If your view is a little sunnier, ATL probably didn't get enough for saving OKC a gazillion.
The two sides haggled over protections on that pick, sources say. OKC pushed for top-20 protected, but ATL got friendlier protections (lottery protected) in the end -- likely by rerouting Muscala to a third team instead of OKC.
My initial take was surprise ATL got a 1st-round pick for Dennis that actually has a chance of being a 1st (though hard to know how good/bad OKC will be by then). But OKC saved a crazy amount of $, and would have had about $10M of Melo on the books if they stretched. OK for both |

Full and slightly into the tax. They can dump Morris (if they are not playing him much) at the trade deadline to get under the tax.
Inka only way to get a max player will be with a trade...anduke they slightly over paid Marcus Smart to a 12 Million contract (I think an overpay of 1 or 2 Million in this market). Smart would have taken his 7 Million QO and went into next year's free agency if Celtics went any lower. QO sign cheste player cannot be traded.
Ippudu they don't have any body with a salary above Jason Tatum at 6 Million and Kyrie at 20 Million. If they need to send out 20 or 25 Million in a trade they will have to package Morris+Tatum+Brown+rookies. They don't want to include Tatum and Brown in Kawhi trade...may be they will be willing to trade one of them for Anthony Davis.
Now, they can just do trades with Morris+Smart and 2019 picks (they have 4 first round picks in 2019 including unprotected Kings pick and 1-8 protected Memphis pick). |

He is not at Kevin Pelton level but decent analyst. That projection includes Melo. Melo ni waive chesaka they will get better with those minutes going to young players.
Lebron is great but Lance is a comedy artist, he could not even get Pacers: the only team he had success with to give him 4 M. Jazz have other reall good starters like Joe Ingles, Derrick Favors, Ricky Rubio...and have built a great organization and system. Ingles and Favors shoot 40+ % from the 3 pt range. |

One of the best signing in this free agency was Thunder signing Nerlens Noel for close to the minimum....Lakers badly missed on this..they could have easily offered the Rondo contract to him.
Klutch galla disasters with Nerlens Noel and KCP...
KCP turned down a 80 Million contract from Pistons and Noel turned down a 70 Million contract from Mavs and took qualifying offer for 4 Million..ippudu even worse contract. Luckily for KCP...SVG withdrew the qualifying offer last year and Lebron's kaska miska with Lakers started. |

Masai strikes...they did not get to play-offs for 5 years before Masai...some of those seasons were with Chris Bosh. Then built it into a 55 win team that made play-offs all 5 years under Masai...but it more or less become a 2nd round team...only season lo they entered East finals.
This is a worth gamble...they will either become a true contender or they can rebuild from a clean slate.
I think OG Anunoby is the important piece in the trade...hope he is staying. |

Lakers haven't traded there young core yet. Took out bad contracts using some young assets. And signing veterans at 1 year deals to maintain flex for next year.

Star potential ledhule...he can be a starter. He will turn 23 this month and big men ki defense more important that guards.
Ingram and Lonzo are only 20 year old...they can develop a lot by the time they hit mid 20s. |

But LeBron is a Laker, and he is not pressuring L.A. to acquire a second star now, per sources familiar with his thinking. His decision to come alone for three guaranteed seasons speaks for itself. He knows Ingram has at least borderline All-Star potential, and that the 2019 free-agency class is loaded beyond Leonard. He has faith in the combined powers of his supernova talent and the Lakers brand.
It's tempting to scoff at the idea that Ingram should be the holdup in acquiring an MVP candidate who just turned 27. The Lakers should happily flip anyone else, including Kuzma, who is probably overvalued at almost 23 and coming off a sort of hoggy rookie season in which he played minimal defense. (To be clear: Kuzma is solid -- a nice shooter to have around LeBron, with tippy-tap footwork that suggests he could be a decent and versatile defender if forced. He also may profile as a nice backup long-term.)
But every team needs sustainability, and Ingram has a chance to be really, really good -- a perfect fit alongside LeBron. He entered the league with nice playmaking feel, and built atop that in important ways last season. Ingram hit 39 percent from deep, got to the rim much more often, and drew about five free throws per 36 minutes -- a tidy number for a string bean kiddo.
If anything, the Lakers overextended Ingram. He'll thrive as a secondary ball handler next to LeBron, rocketing off screens on the wing, catching passes, and zooming right into a pick-and-roll with a head start. He's a savvy cutter on the baseline and in skulking around the 3-point arc. The Lakers missed him a lot. LeBron won't.
The Lakers have the power, for now, to draw the line at Ingram if they want. They have the leverage of Leonard's peculiar situation, LeBron's commitment, and the depth of the 2019 free-agency class. Without such leverage, the scoffing at Ingram as deal-breaker would be justified. Right now, it's not. Ingram is that good, and the Leonard situation is that funky.
He sees one pass ahead, and has the patience to get defenders on his hip while he reads the floor. He even developed a handy step-back midranger for such tight predicaments: |

Yes, he is a valuable rookie....one of the best 20 year old point guards that is already good at passing, rebounding and defending. He has only one major weakness which is the most fixable (but there are also lots of players that were never able to fix it).
I think they will try to trade Lonzo + Deng...only Lonzo ayithe trade will be done in a few hours. Lakers should have been able to get a top-5 protected first round pick for Lonzo in 2019. Rondo ni sign chesi they hurt Lonzo's trade value. |

anyways... with this free agency Magic was right... apart from being in the right city... the most important thing lakers had to attract free agents was the cap space. And what was missing was SoCal culture. Rob and Magic made the right moves to clear up cap for 2 max salaries.. and kept drafting young talent.
Mike Kupchak shouldnt have given those 2 stupid contracts. He should have kept the cap space and mayyyy be we could have landed someone last year... but kupchak was kupchak... he landed luke.. and he got the ingram (should have drafted porzi). |

Yes, that's possible if the do just 1 year deals to fill the most of the remaining cap space. Next year cap is jumping up quite a bit, so they can sign one player to a decent long term deal and fill the rest with expiring deals.
I think Pop's leverage is now gone. Lakers can also check out Kawhi's health and form this season. This year cap space is very very low...if they spend wisely they should be able to get really good players on value deals. |

Lakers have Kuzma (who made rookie 1st team ahead of Lonzo) and 28th pick in 2018 draft. Lakers only want to offer one of Ball or Ingram. I think Pop is trying to sqeeze both of them. |

They should still draft him and deal with it later...he will have to play. Worst case, they should trade down...Bagley will be available much later. I don't understand their fascination with drafting centers...they drafted and signed some 5 or 6 centers in the last 2 years and still want to draft another center when its the least valuable position in the league...poni emanna best center in the class ante he has too many holes. |
