Musicfan:it all depends upon where your last passport was issued. If it was issued in India, then there is no guarantee on time line. If your passport is issued in one of US consulate, then its a week to 2 week max. But if in India, the last issuing passport office has to give clearance, and that depends upon how soon they can give. Then only your next passport will be issued.
COnsulate told me that police report is good for 10 years, since mine was issued from Houston 10 years ago and from India 20 years ago, my police report is expired (Validity is only 10 years). So, mine will take time. That's what he told me.

Currently Regular dhi 20 days theesukuntundhi anta. I only got 2 weeks exact ga. Also elections time they may take little more time annaru.

anta stringent em ledu akkada rules for emergency - this is my observation in NY..
mamool submission kuda.. max +1 week processing time ante..
so you should have ur pp ready by 1week(tatkal) or 2weeks(regular) processing..

There has to be a legitimate reason, without that they wont give.
First you will need to send an email requesting for tatkal with valid reason, then it will take 2 business days for getting approval and next steps.
Its all luck. If you have consulate, better go in person and apply, so that you can discuss with them, Else its all daivaadheenam service
