end of the day Maniratnam didn't have a vision to go beyond what is in the book ante you can do with any tom d and harry |

It’s not a dud. But at the same time it doesn’t do justice to a great story. May be it’s not good idea to cram most part of the story in to a 3 hr film. I wasn’t expecting spectacles. Actors needed some more space to deliver memorable performances.

Twenty years ago I walked in to an empty theatre screening Iruvar. I still remember the way boxoffice clerk looked at me as I walked in. What followed was 158 minutes of Masterclass in film making. Every frame spoke volumes about the craftsmanship of the team. I left the theater with a sense of admiration for the man whose love for film making is evident in every shot. Unfortunately he could never regain his full form in the next two decades. Hope he stops making films.
