ubuntu is going on its own way with customizing gnome3. linux mint is same as ubuntu and they use gnome2. many people are using mint these days

no virus on linux from download or torrent sites. and linux typically runs faster on older hardware compared to windows

I have used(tried) ubuntu, fedora, mint, opensuse, slax.

I like ubuntu, mint. And slax is good but can be only loaded from usb not easily on harddisk .
