if that didn't help, since last name is unique, apply even that to composite index you created before with 3 columns and see.

In contrast to full-text search, the LIKE Transact-SQL predicate works on character patterns only. Also, you cannot use the LIKE predicate to query formatted binary data. Furthermore, a LIKE query against a large amount of unstructured text data is much slower than an equivalent full-text query against the same data. A LIKE query against millions of rows of text data can take minutes to return; whereas a full-text query can take only seconds or less against the same data, depending on the number of rows that are returned.

indexed view is not the solution. if your table is indexed your view results will be same as your table scan results.

while joining the results to another table use the pk column.

No way the search will be 5 minutes if it is just a simple table with 2 million and column is indexed.

now you are saying there is a join, so aa logic kuda post, idea cheputa. it must be the join which is causing the issue

I am thinking to add another column to serach first_name easily..but what taht column should be ?? how tp figure out .. anedi ardam kataledhu ...

what if i add a bitmap columna and then serach with bit operator ??? will that help

I have table named person ..
columns

First_name,
last_name ,
address,
etc ;

ippudu problem antantee.

First_name like + '%' vadathanaru query loo..

and its searching for all the table..

Tables has 2 million rows and this is OLTP not olap..

Query taking 5 mins to execute it has other joins as well.. first_name = ani isthe < 1 sec lo vasthundii ..like rasam kabati taking time..

I checked indexes, statistics etc all Dba tasks from my end ..
