A reason could be Movies evolved from dramas/ stage plays so the emphasis was more.on literature and classical instruments. If you notice overall evolution it changed a lot even for English movies..

I can think of many reasons but here are fewof them

1. appatlo formula based movies undevi kaavu.. so songs situation ki thagginattlu gaa undevi. hence songs needed to enforce the mood and emotions of the situation.
2. Appatlo Songs lo hero and heroines steps tho pani undevi kaavu.. hence lyrics viipinchanantha ga unde dappulu and beats undevi kavu..eppudaithe lyrics vinipinchatledho. lyric evvadu raasthe entani.. AM Rathnam, chandra bose etc. laanti vallu kooda lyriists aipoyaar.
3. appatlo cinemas ante passion undevaale theesevaallu.. ippudu dabbulunna vallu, inka dabbulu sampadinchukovadniki theesthunnaru..
4. Appatlo heroes did not have the kind of clout like today's heroes, even great and senior actors like NTR, SVR, ANR, Savithri etc were working on monthly salaries hence, producers cheppinatlu chesevaaru..
